Required workplace posters in Idaho: what to post, and get them free
Once you have employees, federal and Idaho law require certain notices on the wall. The official posters are free from the Idaho Department of Labor; here's the list and how to tell which apply.
When you hire your first employee, a few official notices need to go up where your team can see them, like a break room or next to the time clock. The Idaho Department of Labor says all Idaho employers must display several of them, and the official versions are free.
The Idaho posters
- Idaho law prohibits discrimination in employment
- Idaho minimum wage law
- Idaho unemployment insurance benefits
- Idaho Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act: Equal opportunity is the law
The federal posters most often needed
- Employee rights under the Fair Labor Standards Act (federal minimum wage)
- Job safety and health: It's the law! (OSHA)
- Know your rights: Workplace discrimination is illegal (EEOC)
- Employee Polygraph Protection Act notice
- Your rights under USERRA (service members' job rights)
- Family and Medical Leave Act: only for employers it covers (generally 50 or more employees)
Some posters only apply to certain employers, such as federal contractors or farms hiring seasonal workers. The US Department of Labor's free online Poster Advisor asks a few questions and tells you which federal posters apply to you.
Where to get them
- The Idaho Department of Labor's "Required posters" page has the whole set as one free PDF, in English and in Spanish
- Print them, put them up where employees see them every day, and replace them when a new version comes out (minimum wage posters change most often)
- Working remotely? Many employers also share them electronically, in addition to the wall copies
Watch out for poster "compliance" mailers
Businesses often get official-looking letters or e-mails offering "required" poster packages for a fee. You don't have to buy them: the official posters are free from the state and federal agencies.
